Meet Keith Plúas
Keith is an elementary school teacher at Colegio La Quinta del Puente, a pioneer bilingual school in Floridablanca, Santander, Colombia. He teaches English Grammar and Literature to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students—ages 8 to 11 years. We were delighted (and very impressed!) to learn these youngsters use Basic English Grammar in their English grammar studies.
Keith was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1977. He describes his dad as an Ecuadorian “ex-hippie” who loved rock ‘n’ roll and his mother as a beautiful Colombian woman. Keith says he first became acquainted with the English language through rock ‘n’ roll music. He grew up in the 70s and 80s, listening to the English lyrics of his dad’s rock music and speaking English with many visiting friends and relatives from the U.S.
Like many, Keith’s path to becoming an EFL teacher was filled with twists and turns. He started teaching in college, where he began tutoring fellow students in math and English while pursuing his own studies in electrical engineering. After a few years of bouncing between Ecuador and Colombia, forming a band and dropping out of school, Keith was earning his living as a private English teacher. Five years ago he was hired to teach English and Literature to children at Colegio La Quinta del Puente.

Keith says: “Teaching has been part of my life for a long time, a profession that has allowed me to teach and share the little I know. It has taught me a lot about children, family values, professionalism and English, of course!” But Keith also has a lifelong passion for music and is still looking to find his way back to music.
With 74 worksheets, Keith was the clear winner of our contest for the most valuable contribution to the website. He chose the Fundamentals of English Grammar Interactive network license as his award. Keith says, “A new school year begins in September and this prize will give the school a powerful tool to continue improving and leading the English teaching in Bucaramanga and in Colombia, where La Quinta del Puente is known as one of the finest and most respected schools.”
Congratulations to Keith, to Colegio La Quinta del Puente, to the students who will now have access to this additional language learning tool, and to the many teachers worldwide who will now have the benefit of Keith’s materials. Everybody wins!
